Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Looking to get their first conference win of the year, the Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team faced off with the Findlay Oilers for a rare Wednesday afternoon matchup in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action. Despite some good scoring opportunities, Lake Erie still came up short by a score of 18 to 5.
In the first half, Lake Erie opened up well with Emma Rhoades opening up the scoring for the Storm off of a free position shot early in the first quarter. Cynthia Saxby would follow that up with a free position goal of her own early in the 2nd. However, the Oilers held a 14-2 advantage going into halftime.
After the break, Lake Erie had their work cut out for them. Allie Smith stepped up and scored off of a Cassidy Bourne assist in the 3rd quarter. In the fourth quarter, Hailey Bryan would score first for the Storm from another Cassidy Bourne assist, and Emma Rhoades would add her second goal of the day from a free position shot. Unfortunately, the scoring chances were not quite enough to overcome the Oilers, and the Storm would fall 18-5.
Statistically, it was still a good day for some Storm players despite the loss. Emma Rhoades led in scoring with 2 goals, and Cassidy Bourne would log 2 assists. Corinne Shimek would have a good day defensively as she caused 2 turnovers, and Abbot Brandt would tally up 6 saves in goal.
Lake Erie is far from finished with GMAC competition this week as they head just up the road to Ursuline College for a matchup at 5 pm on Friday, April 8th.
