Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Early Deficit Costs Storm; Home Finale Awaits

BUFFALO, New York -- The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team competed against D'Youville on Tuesday evening, falling by a final score of 19-3. Despite entering the game at 4-6, the Saints have faced three of the top-ranked teams in the country and have consistently been a strong presence in the East Coast Conference (ECC), making the conference tournament in three of the last four seasons. They showed that strength early, building a 12-0 lead by halftime.

Just under three minutes into the second half, Lindsey Sutter scored the fourth goal of her freshman campaign to get the Storm on the board. Two more goals by the home team extended the lead to 14-1, but fellow freshman LeAnna Waters responded with her 15th goal of the year, marking her seventh-straight game with a goal.

Early in the final period, Brooke McNeal found the back of the net as well, extending her own scoring streak to seven consecutive games. However, the Saints continued to apply pressure, adding five more goals in the final frame to secure the 19-3 victory.

Lake Erie moves to 1-12 on the season with three games remaining.

Notables

Despite only registering six shots, five were on target, an impressive rate of efficiency.

LeAnna Waters led the team with three draw controls, Lakelyn Joslin recorded a team-high three caused turnovers, and Waters, Joslin and Amelia Shirk each collected three ground balls.

Looking Ahead

With no rest, the Storm will take on Edinboro tomorrow, Wednesday, April 8th, at 7 PM in their home season finale. It will also mark their final non-conference matchup of the year. Lake Erie will then close out the season with two road contests against Ursuline on Saturday, April 11th, and Thomas More on Thursday, April 16th.

Edinboro enters at 1-9, with its lone win coming against Point Park University in early March. The Storm fell to that same squad, 17-8. Another common opponent is Tiffin, with both teams coming up short—Lake Erie losing 20-6 and Edinboro falling 17-11.

The Fighting Scots win about 50% of their draw controls but average nearly 19 fewer shots than their opponents, largely due to a 56% clear percentage.
