PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team battled Edinboro in their final home game of the season, falling by a score of 14-5. After Reese Friesen scored just 69 seconds into the game, the Fighting Scots dominated the next 18 minutes, rattling off 10 straight goals to build a big lead.
Over the final 41 minutes, Lake Erie locked in defensively and played Edinboro even at 4-4, but the early deficit kept the game out of reach. The Storm looked strong in the second half, allowing just two goals over 30 minutes of action while the Fighting Scots still played their starters, the fewest goals LEC has allowed in a half this season.
Offensively, things began to click as well. Gabriella Adie stopped the bleeding with her 17th goal of the season with 10 minutes left in the 2nd, and Brooke McNeal followed with a pair of impressive individual efforts to make it 12-4 at halftime. With eight seconds remaining in the game, Claire Varvel converted on a free position attempt, marking the lone Storm goal of the second period right before the final buzzer.
Looking Ahead
Next up is Ursuline on Saturday, April 11th, at 2pm. The Arrows present a strong opportunity for a conference win for the Storm, entering the matchup at 1-12, with their lone victory coming against Thiel in mid-February. Since then, they have been outscored 203-19, with their highest goal total in a game being four against Bethany College. Against G-MAC opponents, they are 0-6 with a -106 goal differential.
Junior Grace Darone leads Ursuline with 11 goals, while freshman Lydia Zorn has played every second in goal for the Arrows, recording 144 saves this season—comfortably the most in the G-MAC.
