PEPPER PIKE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team took on Ursuline College on Saturday afternoon, earning their second victory of the season in a 13-2 win. After the first period, the Arrows led 2-1, but in the second period, the visiting Storm turned it up a notch, scoring seven unanswered goals to take a big lead into halftime. From there, LEC kept the clamps on defensively, holding Ursuline scoreless the rest of the way while continuing to add onto their lead. Ultimately, the Storm cruised to victory, earning their first conference win of the season.
Notables
After the Arrows got six shots off in the opening period, LEC locked in defensively and limited them to just six more over the final 45 minutes.
Seven players scored for the Storm: Claire Varvel (3), Brooke McNeal (3), Lakelyn Joslin (2), Reese Friesen (2), and Lainey Davis, Abby Neugebauer, and Gabriella Adie each with one. For Varvel, the three goals mark a career high for the freshman. McNeal now has 27 on the season, the most on the team, and is closing in on the G-MAC top-10.
Lainey Davis and Brooke McNeal each forced six turnovers, both tying for a team season high.
The Storm finished with a +21 shot differential, their largest of the season.
All three LEC goalkeepers saw time in net, and all three recorded a save.
Looking Ahead
The Storm have one game remaining on their schedule, as they'll hit the road on Thursday, April 16 for a 6 PM matchup against Thomas More.
The Saints are 2-12 this season, opening the year with an 18-17 win over Capital before most recently picking up a 24-15 victory over Northwood. Junior Anna Wells leads the team with 41 goals, the fourth-most in the G-MAC. Defensively, Thomas More allows the most goals per game in the conference and carries the lowest save percentage at 29.3%.
