Box Score ASHLAND, Ohio - After starting the weekend on the road down in Canton on Friday, the Lake Erie women's lacrosse team had another chance to get back in the win column when they meet off with the Ashland Eagles for the second time this season. Despite starting off well, the Storm would come up short and fall to the Eagles by a score of 19-6.
Just after the game got underway, the Eagles took an initial lead. However, the Storm responded with two scoring plays off of free position shots from Emma Rhoades and Shannon Smith. Despite the brief surge, the Eagles would take a 5-2 lead into the 2nd quarter.
In the next period, Lake Erie would continue to make the most of their free position shots as Cassidy Bourne would put another past the Eagles netminder. Despite the efficiency from the free position shots, Ashland would take an 8-3 into the halftime break.
After the half, Ashland would take control of the game. However, Lake Erie would not go quietly. Cassidy Bourne got the ball rolling with an unassisted goal midway through the quarter, and Hailey Bryan would follow that up with another goal off of a Corinne Shimek assist. Unfortunately, the Eagles would maintain a 15-5 lead going into the 4th.
With their work clearly cut out for them trailing in the fourth quarter, the Storm would start the comeback attempt with another Cassidy Bourne goal assisted by Hailey Bryan. However, it was too little too late for the Storm and the Eagles would come away with a 19-6 lead.
On the stats sheet, Cassidy Bourne would lead the way with the hat trick from 4 shots on goal. Shannon Smith and Isabella Golen would also have a strong day defensively with 5 caused turnovers between the two of them.
The Storm will have another chance to get back on track when they return home on Wednesday, April 6th for a previously rescheduled contest against the Findlay Oilers. That contest is slated to begin at 4 pm at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
