Storm Falls in Tight Battle with Dragons

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team was in action today as they were defeated by Tiffin University, 11-9.

The Dragons jumped out to an early three goal lead, before the Storm responded when Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) found the back of the net, to make the score 3-1 in favor of Tiffin.  The Storm tacked on a second straight goal when Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) scored off a free position shot with just under 21 minutes remaining in the half.  The Dragons answered with a three goal run to take a 6-2 lead, which forced a Lake Erie timeout with just over 15 minutes remaining in the half.  Out of the timeout, the Dragons scored two goals before the Storm made the score 8-3 when Kaci Asper (Syracuse, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse / Onondaga) scored an unassisted goal with just over three minutes remaining in the first half.  The Storm entered the intermission trailing, 8-3.    

At the half, the Storm was led by Mathis as she had a goal and a draw control in the half. 

The Storm came out the locker room ready to play as Mathis scored off a free position shot thirty seconds into the second half, to make the score 8-4.  After a Dragons goal, the Storm responded when Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) found the back of the net off a feed from A. Spin, to make the score 9-5. After nearly 10 minutes of scoreless action Lake Erie broke the drought with a goal by Crawford off a feed from A. Spin, cutting the lead to 9-6 in favor of the Dragons.  Two minutes later, the Storm made it a two goal game when Kayla Bohn (Louisville, Ky. / Eastern) scored an unassisted goal with just over 14 minutes remaining in the game. The Storm tacked on a third straight goal as A. Spin scored an unassisted goal to cut the Tiffin lead to 9-8.  After a pair of Tiffin goals, Lake Erie responded when Bohn scored off a free position shot to make the score 11-9 in favor of the Dragons with just over two minutes remaining in the game.  The Storm was unable to make a late charge and fell, 11-9.

The Storm was led by A. Spin as she had two goals, a pair of assists, and two groundballs.  Crawford pitched in with a pair of goals and a caused turnover.  Mathis added a pair of goals, and two draw controls.      

Lake Erie will return to the field Sunday (April 23) when they travel to take on Findlay at 1 p.m.
