Storm Advance Four to NCAA Wrestling Nationals

WEST LIBERTY, West Virginia -- The Lake Erie wrestling team traveled to West Liberty University this weekend to compete in the NCAA DII Super Region III Tournament. After a successful day, the Storm finished with two regional champions and four national qualifiers.

Christian Small (149) and Jack Haskin (157) led the way for Lake Erie by both winning the regional championship in their respective weight class. Small started the day by facing off against Findlay's Mason Kleinberg. He made relatively quick work of Kleinberg, pinning him in 4:05. He then faced Nico Taddy from West Liberty University and scrapped out a narrow 3-1 decision win. With the win, he secured his place as a national qualifier and advanced to the championship against Christopher Donathan from Grand Valley State. In the championship he defeated Donathan 4-3 and captured his first career regional title.

Haskin blew by his competition en route to the 157 regional championship. He faced off first against Caden Jacobs of Grand Valley State and took him down by technical fall 18-3. His defeated his next opponent, Jamar Williams from West Liberty, 14-0 by major decision and in the regional championship he took down Guy Deleonardis by 7-2 decision for his first career regional title.

Ryan Wehner (133) and Corey Gamet (141) each advanced to the championship match but fell just short of the win. With their second place finishes, both join Small and Haskin as national qualifiers.
