PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie wrestling team hosted the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers and the #21 Ashland University Eagles today for a Saturday afternoon tri-match. The Storm easily took care of the Panthers but fell to the nationally ranked Eagles to finish the day with a split.

The Storm's first dual of the day got off to a great start after they secured their first two matches on a forfeit from the Panthers at 125 and a 6-3 decision win by
Jack Harrison at 133.
Joey Romano took down his opponent via pin at 141 before the Panthers forfeited their 149 match, giving Lake Erie a commanding 21-0 lead.
Josh Howey and
Josh Jordan each earned pin victories to extend the lead before the Storm dropped their only match at 174. After this match, they held a 33-3 lead to officially secure the victory.
Kentucky Wesleyan forfeited their match at 174 and the Storm concluded the dual with a pin victory by
Quinn Gorman at 197 and a major decision win by
Tyler Shellenbarger at 285.

After a close contest against #3 Tiffin yesterday, the Storm's matchup today against #21 Ashland was highly anticipated.
The Storm began the dual with a loss at 125 to #11 Luke Acuna but took the next two matches after a gritty sudden victory by
Anthony Sagaris at 133 and a 7-3 decision by
Carsen Richards to take a 6-3 lead.
Lake Erie dropped their 149 match to #6 Hayden Kuhn but bounced back with a huge technical fall win by
Josh Howey at 157 to take a 11-6 lead.
It was tough the rest of the way for the Storm as they dropped their remaining matches including losses to four ranked opponents in #9 Nate Barrett (165), #10 Sevriano Garza (174), #10 Fletcher Rose (184), and #15 Peyton Lemon (197).
Looking Ahead
The Storm will be back in action on Wednesday, December 17th at home against another ranked opponent in #15 West Liberty. The dual is scheduled for 6 p.m.
