CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Lake Erie wrestling team kicked off the 2023-24 season at the Bob Del Rosa Ohio Intercollegiate Open hosted by Case Western Reserve University.
In the event, Lake Erie wrestlers would go 19-12, with four matches being won by technical fall, three by major decision and two by way of fall.
Jack Haskin and redshirt freshman
Carsen Richards would led the way for the Storm. Haskin recorded a 4-0 record and won three by technical falls. Two of his matches would be against against conference opponents Elijah Hunter and Casey Barnett from Tiffin. Barnett currently ranks third in the country at 157.
Richards also finished the event with a 4-0 record, winning each by decision with a combined score of 29-11.
Redshirt freshman
Josh Howey finished with a 4-1 record in his first collegiate event and recorded both pins for Lake Erie. He would win his other two matched by technical fall and major decision.
Reigning G-MAC champion at 149,
Austin Fietz finished the event with a 3-1 record, winning by sudden victory, major decision, and decision.
The Storm will be back in action on Saturday, November 18th in Findlay, Ohio for the Findlay Open before returning home for the Storm Quad Meet on Saturday, December 2nd in Painesville.
