PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie wrestling team competed in their final contest of the 2025 calendar year tonight as they hosted the #15 West Liberty Hilltoppers. Lake Erie took a huge lead early and never looked back, defeating their ranked opponent 35-6.

Braden Hahlen kicked off the dual with a nice 8-4 decision win to put the Storm up 3-0. The Storm then rattled off four straight wins by
Anthony Sagaris (133, MD 13-5),
Carsen Richards (141, MD 11-1),
Colin Roberts (149, MD 15-4) and
Josh Howey (157, TF 19-1). After five straight wins, the Storm took a commanding 20-0 lead.
Lake Erie dropped their matches at 165 and 174 by decision, but #18
Vincent Scaramuzzino and
Joey Scaramuzzino earned back-to-back wins before
Tyler Shellenbarger won via forfeit to cap off the 35-6 win.
Looking Ahead
The Storm will be back in action in the new year to face another tough opponent in Gannon University at home on Saturday, January 10th at 2 p.m. The Golden Knights currently rank #5 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
