Storm Defeated by the Chargers 52-21

HILLSDALE, Michigan — The Lake Erie College Storm traveled to the state up north for another conference matchup against the Hillsdale College Chargers. After a rough first half outing ending at 45-7, the Storm defense would heavily improve in the second half, with the final score being 52-21. With this loss, Lake Erie is now 1-8 on the season and 0-6 in conference play. 

The offense started off unable to get momentum the entire game, scoring a touchdown in each of the last three quarters. After a lopsided 35-0 first quarter, Lake Erie would actually go on to outscore the Chargers for the rest of the game 21-17. The defense would become a force for the Chargers offense, only allowing seven total points in the second half.  The Storm defense would allow just a touchdown in the third quarter, and hold Hillsdale scoreless in the fourth. 

Xeavier Bullock went 15 for 29 through the air with a 51 percent completion percentage, one touchdown, one interception, and a QBR of 117.6. Bullock also added 27 yards on the ground off of nine attempts. Tyrone Williams Jr. led the way on the ground for the Storm, adding 41 yards off of a team high 11 carries. Raphael Jones Jr. again was the workhorse down in the trenches for Lake Erie, scoring two touchdowns on eight attempts with 15 total yards. Jones Jr. now leads the way in rushing touchdowns for the Storm with five on the season. Tony Edwards had a big day with six receptions good for 87 yards with a 14.5 yard per catch average. Tyrone Lindsey added four receptions for 64 yards with the team high longest catch of 35 yards. Maliek Carter had two catches for 29 yards and a touchdown. 

The Storm defense was once again led by the trio of Cameren Grodhaus, Euvoski Cunningham, and Cameron Webb. Grodhaus finished his impressive day with another game registering the game high in tackles. He finished with nine total tackles, with four solo, and one tackle for loss. Webb finished the game with seven tackles, two being solo take downs. Cunningham had five total tackles on the day, impressively all being solo. Lucas Fonseca also contributed a solid five tackles, one solo take down, and one tackle for loss. Charlie Taylor added the only sack for the Storm defense on the day, for a nine yard deficit, he finished with four tackles as well.

The Storm continue to make strides in a positive direction after a successful second half ball game. Following a two game road stint, the Storm head home to take on the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers at Jack Britt Memorial stadium for the last home game of the 2023 season and senior night for the Storm. Kickoff is Saturday, November 4, at 6:30 PM.
