Box Score 2 PAINESVILLE, Ohio - In a Saturday jam packed with Lake Erie College action spread across three sports, the Storm softball program had a tough task in front of them as the Findlay Oilers came to town for the last home doubleheader of the season. The Storm played well across the board, and were able to earn a Senior day split with the Oilers. The games played out as follows:
Findlay 7, Lake Erie 5
In Game 1, Lake Erie got off to a great start when Kiya Smith blasted a three run home run in the first inning. She drove in CJ Garcia and Payton Brownlee on the play. Just after that, Ava Scott tripled to drive in Cheyenne Hamel. Shortly thereafter in the third inning, Kiya Smith drove in one more run when she grounded out to bring in Jordyn Hawkins from third. Despite the big early lead, the Oilers surged back and would eclipse the Storm's advantage in the 8th inning with a game winning 2 run home run. Despite the loss, Grace Hammer pitched well for the Storm as she logged 7 strikeouts.
Lake Erie 7, Findlay 1
Despite the disappointing start to the day, Lake Erie bounced back with a dominant Game 2. The Storm opened up the scoring in the third inning with a Arianna Tammaro single that brought in Dani Soria. Peyton Brownlee would score later that same inning on a fielder's choice. After a Findlay run in the 5th, the Storm would answer right back with a Ava Scott single that brought in Arianna Tammaro and CJ Garcia. In the 6th, the Storm would add two more runs off of hits Adrianna Sluga and Kiya Smith to put the finishing touches on a dominant win for the Storm. In the pitcher's circle, Carly Rowland would have a successful day with 4 strikeouts in 6 innings pitched.
While this concluded the Storm home softball schedule, they still have some life left in this season. They will head to Nashville, Tennessee for a road doubleheader with the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans on April 29th. The first contest is slated for 3 pm.
