Turkowski's Big Day Leads Storm to G-MAC Victory

OWENSBORO, Ky. — The Lake Erie softball team began their final road trip of the season today against the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers for another Great Midwest matchup. The Storm offense was in full swing, and took the first game by mercy rule but narrowly dropped game two to end the day.

GAME 1
LEC - 14
KWC - 1

5 innings

The Storm got on the board first with solo home run by Lily Turkowski in the first inning. The Panthers scored in the bottom half of the inning to tie up the game and the second inning was scoreless for both teams.

In the top of the third, Allie Jackson led off the inning with a walk and Peyton Powers singled through the left side to move her over to second. Sydney Taylor followed them up with a single of her own to load the bases for Turkowski who got ahold of the first pitch she saw and lifted it over the right field wall for her second home run of the game.

Lake Erie put the game completely out of reach in the fifth with an eight run-inning to mercy-rule the Panthers, 14-1.

Turkowski led the way in the win going 3-for-3 with two home runs, five RBIs, and three runs scored. Rachel Fender had a great day herself, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored while Powers and Taylor each had two hits in the game.

GAME 2
LEC - 6
KWC - 7

The Panthers flipped the script in game two, putting up four runs in the bottom of the first and shutting out the Storm in the first two innings.

The Storm got on the board with a Sydney Taylor double and scored two more on a single by Lily Turkowski.

In the fourth, Vanessa White tied up the game with a home run to left field and Turkowski gave Lake Erie a 6-4 lead with a two-run home run in the fifth.

The Panthers trimmed the lead to 6-5 in the sixth and in the bottom of the seventh, the first batter of the inning reached on a single and two batters later, Kentucky Wesleyan walked it off with a two-run home run to center field.

Turkowski once again led the team going 2-for-4 with four RBIs and one run scored. Taylor, White, Peyton Powers, Samantha Lippiatt, Lillian Campbell, Allie Jackson, and Kaitlyn Hendrian each had a hit in the game while Rachel Fender worked two walks.

Looking Ahead
Lake Erie will conclude their season tomorrow with a doubleheader against Thomas More in Crestview Hills. Game one will begin at 12 p.m.
