Box Score 2 CEDARVILLE, Ohio - After a string of home contests, the Lake Erie softball program hit the road on Tuesday for a mid-week doubleheader down in southern Ohio against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. The Storm played well on the day, and they would split the series with the Yellow Jackets. The games played out as follows:
Lake Erie 3, Cedarville 2
In Game 1, the clear story of the contest was the dominant pitching performance from Grace Hammer in the pitcher's circle. She broke a 16-year school record by striking out a whopping 19 batters across the 9 innings she pitched as the game went into extras. Offensively, it was the Yellow Jackets who jumped out to the initial lead with runs in the first and fourth innings. The Storm surged back in the 7th. Ava Scott came in clutch with a single to bring in Arianna Tammaro and Cheyenne Hamel to knot up the game and push it to extra innings. The deciding run would come 2 innings later in the 9th when a failed Cedarville pick-off attempt and rundown would give Jordyn Long the chance to advance home from third.
Cedarville 8, Lake Erie 0
After the extra innings drama of Game 1, the second contest of the afternoon was much tougher for the Storm. The Yellow Jackets quickly jumped out to an early lead with multiple runs in the second and third innings and would push it to their 8-run lead in the 5th inning. Lake Erie had a tough time with the Cedarville pitching as they would log just 5 hits in the contest. In the pitcher's circle, Bridget Mullholand got the start for the Storm, and Carly Rowland would come in as a reliever to finish the game for Lake Erie.
Despite the disappointing end to Game 2, the Storm will have another chance to get right back into action as they are slated to take on the Ashland Eagles on the road. The first contest in Ashland is scheduled for 3 pm.
