Box Score NASHVILLE, TN - The Lake Erie College women's basketball team took the court for the final time in the 2021-2022 campaign in Nashville, Tennessee as they took on the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans. Despite a career scoring day from Lainey Billing, the Storm fell by a score of 78-73. The first quarter saw the Storm get off to a great start as they took an initial lead that held for the majority of the period. The hot start was fueled by excellent outside shooting from Lainey Billing, and solid interior play from Breanna Bauer. However, a late Trojan run would put the Storm down 20 to 27 as the game went to the second period.
The second quarter began with the Storm keeping it close with the Trojans, and they narrowed the lead to just 3 behind some strong outside shooting from Taylor Thomas. However, the Storm would struggle defensively with the fast paced offensive attack from Trevecca, and the game would enter the halftime break at 52-36 favoring Trevecca Nazarene.
The third period saw the Storm show some fight as they tried to claw their way back into the game. CC Carey and Lauren Flannery would both play well defensively in the period, but the Trojans maintained a 65-50 lead entering the final quarter.
In the fourth, coach Mackenzie Perttu's squad would put the pedal to the metal as they frantically tried to mount a comeback. They successfully narrowed the lead to just 3 in the final seconds of the game. Unfortunately, the Storm comeback bid fell just short and the Trojans would pull away with a 78-73 win.
It was a bittersweet day for the Storm on the stat sheet as Lainey Billing posted a career high in points with 25. This eclipsed her previous career high of 20 in her final game in the Lake Erie green and white. She also chipped in 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Also in their final game with the Storm, Breanna Bauer put up a double double with 13 point and 10 rebounds, and Lauren Flannery added 17 points.
This game concluded the 2021-2022 season for the Lake Erie College women's basketball program. They will finish with a record of 2-26 overall and 1-21 in G-MAC play.
