PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's basketball team hosted the Ohio Dominican University Panthers today for their season finale and senior day. The Storm were led by strong play in the paint but were unable to overcome the Panthers, falling 76-67.
Game Recap
The Storm were in the drivers seat in the first half, holding the Panthers to just 22 points and scoring 31 themselves. The Storm defense held strong and held Ohio Dominican to just 18% shooting from the field.
In the second half, the Panthers made the correct halftime adjustments and their offense came alive, putting up 28 in the third and 26 in the fourth. While the Storm shot even better in the second half, the Panthers offense was too much and the game ended with a 76-67 loss.
Seniors Grace Lyon and Megan Mares both recorded double-doubles in the contest. Lyon had a 23-point, 10 rebound performance with four steals, while Mares put up 17 points and 12 rebounds, grabbing two steals and blocking two shots as well.
Season Review
While not the exact year the Storm hoped for, there were some bright spots throughout the season. The team improved not only their win total, but their G-MAC positioning and win total as well. Kylie Maxwell and Grace Lyon became the first pair of Storm teammates to each grab 150+ rebounds in a season since 2019-20 when Brenna Bauer and Ashley West did so.
