Fresh off the tightly contested Great Midwest Athletic Conference Wrestling Championships, the Lake Erie College wrestling team and head coach Jeff Breese hit the road for a dual against the Golden Knights of Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania. The Storm battled hard, but would fall by a score of 23-18.
With many wrestlers still recovering from the tightly contested dual matches of last weekend, Lake Erie used this opportunity to get some of the less experienced wrestlers on the team some much needed collegiate experience on the mats. Jacob Johnson would make the first splash for the Storm as he was able to pin his opponent just moments into the second bout of the night. Ryan Wehner and Jacob Potok would then add individual wins in their respective bouts. On top of the 10 bouts that generally make up a dual meet, the contest included 4 extra bouts. In these bouts, Dylan Norris and Brady O'Connor were able to add 2 more individual bout wins. However, in the team score, it would be the Knights who came away with the 23-18 win.
The Storm wrestlers will be back on the mats on the road again for a dual meet against the Davenport Panthers on Saturday, February 5th. That contest will begin at 5 pm.
