(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) - On Sunday, the Lake Erie College football team will play its third and final game of the truncated 2020-21 season, at home against Kentucky Wesleyan. The Storm (0-2 G-MAC) will be back in action at home after losing on the road at Findlay last week, 51-14. Kentucky Wesleyan (0-4 G-MAC) enters the affair after dropping their game against Walsh last week, 24-14.
In the Findlay loss, Lake Erie struggled to keep up with the offensive onslaught by the Oilers. Findlay topped Lake Erie in the rushing department, with Storm backs only picking up 21 total yards on the ground. However, what the Storm lacked in rushing it made up for through the air. Redshirt-sophomore quarterback Gerald Gardner completed 16 of 31 pass attempts in the game, throwing for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Gardner's longest completion of the day came at the end of the third quarter, when he connected with senior wide receiver Eric Daniels to put the ball at the Findlay 10.
But in the end, Findlay just had too many talented offensive and defensive players making big plays for Lake Erie to win, and the Oilers topped the Storm, 51-14.
Kentucky Wesleyan is led by senior quarterback Chauncey Greer, who enters the game with two touchdowns and 273 passing yards in three games. Junior linebacker Jalen Humphrey has 33 tackles and two sacks for the Panthers defense.
Kickoff is set for 3:00 pm EST on Sunday with coverage available at lakeeriestorm.com.
