Senior forward Breanna Bauer led the charge for the Storm, registering 27 points and going 11-13 from the field. She also shot 80% from the line and grabbed six rebounds, including 5 offensive rebounds. Sophomore guard Sydney Wyngarden notched 13 rebounds herself, along with eight points. Other key contributors for Lake Erie were sophomore forward Shalaya Heath and junior guard Lainey Billing, who scored 10 and nine points respectively (with Heath coming off the bench).
While Ohio Valley did receive some decent contributions from the likes of players like guard Jordan Fox, who scored 28 points, it wasn't enough to hold the visiting Storm at bay. Lake Erie outscored the Fighting Scots in each of the first three quarters, after which point the outcome of the game was all-but determined. The Storm topped Ohio Valley in multiple other categories as well, including Fast Break Points (9-7), Points Off Turnovers (14-6), Bench Points (28-14), Second Chance Points (13-3), and, most impressively, Points in the Paint, which Lake Erie won by a margin of 40 (58-18).
The win is a much-welcomed shot in the arm for the Storm, who improve their record to 2-13 on the season. As for the Fighting Scots, the loss drops them down to 0-12.
Up next on the schedule for Lake Erie is a rematch with Ohio Valley on Wednesday, this time on their own court at the Jerome T. Osborne Athletic Center in Painesville. That affair tips off at 5:30.
