CANTON, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team competed today on the road against the Malone University Pioneers for another Great Midwest matchup. The Storm were unable to hang with a strong Pioneer team, and they fell 60-45.

Both teams struggled early in the quarter to get a rhythm going. Malone managed to score the game's first basket at the 7:43 mark and extended the lead to 4-0 before the Storm knocked down their first basket on a three-pointer by
Emma Fouch. Malone continued to push their and ended the quarter with an 18-11 edge.
Production dipped for both sides in the second but the Storm managing to out shoot the Pioneers with a shooting percentage of 40% compared to Malone's 33.33%. Despite the advantage, Malone would outscore Lake Erie 13-10 and the deficit sat at 31-21 at the half.
Both sides came out of the locker room and had their most productive quarter but Malone continued to outpace the Storm.
Lake Erie managed to outscore the Pioneers 11-8 in the fourth but the game would end in a 60-45 loss on the road.
Grace Lyon led the team with 14 points and six rebounds while
Melanie Alvarenga grabbed a team-high four steals, surpassing her career-high once again.
Looking Ahead
The Storm will compete in their final road contest of the season on Thursday, February 26th at 5:30 p.m. against Cedarville before concluding their season at home for senior day against Ohio Dominican at 1 p.m.
