Head coach Jeff Breese and the Lake Erie wrestling program took a trip down to Pennsylvania on Saturday to compete in the Washington and Jefferson Invitational. To say the least, the Storm had a great day on the mats and came away with a first place finish as a team in a field of over 20 collegiate programs from across the region.
The Storm competed strongly across the entire day of competition spread across the weight classes. Starting with the heavyweight class, Ronnie D'Amico and Paul Scaramuzzino finished 3rd and 5th. In the 197 pound class, returning All-American Christopher Droege placed second in the group, as he came up just short in the final match to miss out on the top spot. Next is the 184 pound class which saw Brian Clouse feature at second overall. Senior John Penfold and freshman Jaron Patterson would place at 2nd and 5th in the 174 pound weight class. Not to be outdone by his brother, James Penfold would finish 1st in the 165 pound weight class, and Jacob Smithson would finish 4th in that same group. In the 157 pound weight class, John Siemasz and Jacob Potok would come in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Sean O'Hearon came in 2nd in the 149 pound weight class. Nate DeBoe would come in as 1st in the 141 pound weight class, and Jacob Donahue would come in at 3rd in that same grouping. Next is the 133 pound weight class, which saw Corey Gamet come in 1st and Ryan Wehner come in 3rd. Last but not least, Jordan Rodriguez and Jacob Johnson would round out the field with 2nd and 5th place finishes in the 125 pound weight class respectively.
With the Storm wrestling season now in full swing, the coming weekend will be a busy one for Coach Breese's squad. First, a portion of the squad will head up to Saint Cloud State in Minnesota for a meet on November 14th starting at 2 pm Central. The rest of the squad will stay closer to home and head up the road to compete at John Carroll for the second time this season on Sunday, November 21st at 11 AM.
