Box Score 2 (Detroit, Michigan) – The Lake Erie Storm women's basketball team opened their season this weekend at the conference crossover tournament at Wayne State University. The Storm fell to Wayne State 75-45 Saturday night, followed by a tough loss to Ferris State with a final score of 78-49.
Saturday
The Storm struggled on the road against Wayne State as the Warriors won 75-45.
Junior, Alexis Lehmkuhl (Wellington, Ohio) came off the bench for the Storm, putting up 13 points with two rebounds. Junior forward, Abby Matalavage (Westlake, Ohio) joined Lehmkuhl as the only other player in double figures knocking down two 3 pointers and finishing with 10 points.
Lake Erie spent much of the game fighting from behind, as they went into the half trailing by 20 points.
The Storm had an offensive third quarter only getting outscored by 1 point, however, the 20-point trail at half time had them going into the fourth quarter down 58-38.
The offense of the Warriors did not let up as the outscored the Storm 16-7 in the fourth quarter.
The Storm struggle from the field shooting 29.3% and only going 7-19 behind the arc. Senior, Breanna Bauer and freshman, CC Carey both added 5 points for the Storm. Bauer also added eight rebounds for the Storm.
Sunday
A second-half surge of 44 points was too much to overcome as Lake Erie dropped a 78-49 decision to Ferris State.
The first quarter was a battled as the two teams went back and forth, ultimately Ferris State outscored the Storm 18-22.
The Storm was able to tie Ferris State 12-12 in the second quarter, trailing by only 4 points going into the half.
Breanna Bauer led the Storm putting up 12-points and seven rebounds. Junior Lauren Flannery added 11 points joining Bauer as a double-digit scorer.
The Bulldogs had a 28-point third quarter, taking all momentum away from the Storm. Ferris State then added 16-points in the fourth quarter the secure the win.
The Storm was 17-53 in the field and 3-14 behind the arc in game two, with an 80% free throw percentage.

The Storm is set to host Roberts Wesleyan this Thursday, November 18th in their first home game of the season.
