Box Score Lake Erie's women's basketball team dropped a road affair to Findlay Saturday, losing to the Oilers by a score of 95-61. Two days after topping Hillsdale for their first win of the season, the Storm lost to Findlay, who improved to 7-7 on the year. The Storm fall to 1-10.
From the beginning, Lake Erie struggled to keep up with the powerful offensive attack of Findlay. The Storm headed into the second quarter trailing by 13 and were never able to overcome the Oilers, being outscored in the following three periods as well.
Findlay received heavy support from its starting five, with each player registering at least eight points. Three players finished with 20 or more points, including guard Allison Utterback (20), forward Bridget Landin (22), and forward Syndey Kin (28). Landin and Kin also had nine rebounds each. Guard Amber Schweiger had 13 assists. Additionally, only three free throw attempts were missed between the five Oiler starters, on 19 total chances.
For Lake Erie, Dy'Jhanik Armfield came off the bench to lead the Storm in scoring with 15 points in only 12 minutes. Forward Breanna Bauer had 10 points of her own, along with six rebounds. But the Storm labored from three-point range, knocking in only two on 22 attempts. Lake Erie also finished with a lower team field goal percentage and free throw percentage than Findlay.
Next up for the Storm is a Monday night rematch with Findlay, this time at the Jerome T. Osborne Athletic Center in Painesville. That game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30.
