SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio
The Lake Erie College Storm fell to the no. 5 ranked Notre Dame College Falcons tonight, despite a strong start at 125.
Lake Erie College redshirt freshman Jacob Johnson led off the night with a dominant 7-1 win by decision, and the Storm pulled ahead by three, their only lead of the night.
They subsequently fell at weights 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, 174, 184, 197, and 285.
Of the Notre Dame wrestlers that won their matches tonight, five were nationally ranked at weights 133 (no.2), 141 (no.10), 165 (no.16), 184 (no.2), and 285 (no.2).
Storm wrestling head coach Jeff Breese said his team wrestled better than the score showed tonight. "Jake Johnson got us off to a great start.", said Breese. "He wrestled well in all positions. He will likely have a forfeit at Urbana, so it was good to get one more solid effort from him before Regionals.
We rested some starters tonight at 133, 141, 149, 174, and 197. However, we had guys step up and be very competitive against All-Americans and guys ranked high in the country.
Conor Donahue and
Paul Scaramuzzino both wrestled very well in losses. Both were in their first single dual action at LEC and both gave themselves a chance to knock off an NCAA All-American. That is fantastic to see for guys that are not our starters yet but are true freshmen."
The Storm heads on the road for the final dual meet of the 2019-2020 season on Friday, Feb. 14.
