The Lake Erie College Storm wrestling program finished second in competition yesterday, hosted by Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania.
The Waynesburg Invite consisted of 16 teams spanning NCAA Divisions II and III, NCWA, and NJCAA from eight different states including Adrian, Alderson Broaddus, Alvernia, The Apprentice School, Fairmont State, Gettysburg, Jamestown C.C., Muskingum, Ohio Northern, Pitt-Bradford, SW Virginia C.C., Trinity (Conn.), Maryland Baltimore County, Washington & Jefferson, and Waynesburg in addition to Lake Erie College.
Of the eight Storm wrestlers in competition yesterday, five placed.
At 133 - Jason Brewster placed fourth. Brewster went into the concession rounds after dropping his first bout but managed to win three straight including one fall before medically forfeiting in his final bout of the day. Blake Glogouski also competed at 133 and placed second. Glogouski recorded two falls in the first round of the championship segment and the quarterfinals. He won the semifinal by a 6-1 decision, and then dropped a first-place match in a 5-0 decision.
At 141 - Brandon Tenney placed first. Tenney went through a bye in his first bout and won out the remaining four bouts, which included recording two falls. He won by no-contest over teammate Andrew Lieb. Lieb also placed second at the 141 weight class.
At 165 - James Penfold placed first. Penfold recorded wins by two falls and one major decision (8-0) in his final match of the day. Penfold scored 23 team points for the Storm.
At 174 - The Storm struggled at 174. Both Paul Scaramuzzino and John Penfold wrestled, but neither placed. Both added two points to the team total.
At 197 - Chris Droege placed first. Droege won his first championship round by an 8-0 major decision, before recording a fall, tech fall, and earning a 6-2 decision win to place first at 197. He added 19.5 points to the Storm cause.
