The Lake Erie College wrestling program will be competing in the Great-Midwest Athletic Conference Championship Duals this Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan. 25 at the University of Findlay.
Storm wrestling will go into this years' G-MAC duals as the defending conference champions, earning their first G-MAC championship last season and their fourth conference championship overall.
Storm wrestling currently has two wrestlers ranked (Open Mat) in Blake Glogouski competing in the 133 weight class, and Chris Droege at 197. Glogouski, a senior, has a record of 8-3 so far through the 2019-2020 season and is no. 15 overall. Droege, a redshirt junior, has a record of 14-5 and is ranked no. 14 overall.
Lake Erie wrestlers will face nationally-ranked competition this weekend in over half the duals on the schedule this weekend.
Findlay currently has two wrestlers nationally recognized in Brandon Proudlock, ranked no. 15 at 141, and Nate Vandemeer, no. 7 overall at 174.
Alderson Broaddus has a lone wrestler ranked 7th overall in Gino Sita at 184. The Battler wrestling program also received seven votes to appear in the current NCAA Division II NWCA Coaches Poll.
Tiffin's wrestling program is currently ranked 8th overall in NCAA Division II wrestling. The Dragons program features four wrestlers ranked by Open Mat and was picked the favorite to win at G-MAC Duals in the 2019-2020 Preseason Coaches Poll. Chris Donathon is ranked 5 at 149. At 157, Trey Grine takes the top spot in the national rankings. At 174, Hayden Bronne is ranked no. 6 overall. Finally, no. 4 ranked Nicholas Mason could match up against Lake Erie's Droege at 197 in the final dual of the tournament.
The Storm begins wrestling at 5 p.m. on Friday with Kentucky Wesleyan followed by Alderson Broaddus at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Storm will begin competition at 10 a.m. against Ohio Valley followed by Findlay at noon and will wrap up their final dual of the tournament against Tiffin at 2 p.m.
