(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – The Battle of Cleveland wrestling dual took place tonight as Lake Erie hosted nationally ranked No. 3 Notre Dame in the Osborne Center. Unfortunately for the Storm (4-3), the Falcons (3-0) established a dominant start and went on to win 45-3.
The lone points for the Green and White came at the 157 lbs. bout where No. 11 Nick Boggs squared off with No. 9 Zach Kelly in an exciting bout. Kelly held the advantage in the late stages of the third period, but Boggs was able to knot things up at 3-3 to force sudden victory in the final seconds.
In overtime, it didn't take Boggs too long to square away the decision as he scored a takedown for two points and the 5-3 win.
Forrest Glogouski, Andrew Lieb, and Tylor Orrison were all close to scoring more points in the team standings, but all three lost via decision by two points or fewer.
At 133, Glogouski took Notre Dame's Hunter Bray to the limit before taking the loss on an 8-6 decision. Lieb was on the edge of tying his match before time ran out when he was down 10-8 at 141. Orrison's match at 174 was even closer, but he was edged by Cornell Beachem 5-4.
The Storm will be back on the mats next weekend when they visit Tiffin for the G-MAC Duals.
