Box Score 2 EASTLAKE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College baseball team hosted the #16 Ohio Dominican University Panthers at Classic Park on Sunday (April 8) afternoon.
The Panthers won the opener 15-4 and took the nightcap by a 13-1 final score.
GAME ONE
Ohio Dominican jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before the Storm cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom half of the first. Corbin Paxton (Sylvania, Ohio / Southview) led off with a single and moved to second base on a throwing error. Ryan Carver (Orange Park, Fla. / Oakleaf) walked to put two runners on. After a strikeout, Wes Birchmeier (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) singled home Paxton from second base.
The Panthers added one run in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth for a 9-1 advantage.
Lake Erie chipped away at the lead with a three spot in the fourth inning. Rees Rua (Amherst, Ohio / Amherst Steele) opened the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout. Sam Browning (Cincinnati, Ohio / Archbishop McNicholas) followed with a single as Lake Erie had runners on the corners. Blake Curry (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) singled home Rua with a base hit to center field. Two batters later, Carver plated two more runs with a two-run single to left field.
Ohio Dominican scored four runs over the next two innings, holding a 13-4 lead after six innings.
The Panthers closed the scoring with two runs in the ninth inning as they won the opener 15-4.
Paxton and Browning each had two hits as the Storm totaled seven hits in the first game. Brian D'Andrea (Amherst, Ohio / Amherst) pitched two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Ohio Dominican plated four runs in the second inning for a 4-0 lead over the Storm.
In the fourth inning, Lake Erie cut the lead to 4-1. Rua walked with one out, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a RBI single by Nathan Birtley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor).
A five-run fifth inning and a four-run seventh inning made it 13-1 Panthers.
Four different players had hits for the Storm in the game. Brad Curry (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) worked around two baserunners for a scoreless inning of relief work.
Lake Erie will host Fairmont State on Tuesday (April 10) afternoon at Classic Park. The doubleheader will begin at 1:00 PM.
