Storm Drop Final Home Series Against Timberwolves

WILLOUGHBY, Ohio – The Lake Erie baseball team hosted their final home series against the Northwood Timberwolves. The Timberwolves would comfortably take game one 24-5. A late RBI single from Travis Yankovich would push the Storm to a 5-4 game two victory. Northwood would shut out Lake Erie in game three 15-0. The Timberwolves would pull away late in game four and take the series with a 10-3 victory.

The Timberwolves would jump ahead early, putting up seven runs in the first two innings. The Storm would get on the board in the bottom of the second with an RBI double from Hunter Aurand bringing the score to 7-1. Northwood would balloon there lead to 21-1 after putting up 14 runs in the third and fourth combined. Lake Erie would tack on three more runs in the bottom half of the fourth with another RBI double from Aurand, Aurand scoring on a throwing error, and an RBI single from Brady Carman, bringing the score to 21-4. Brendan Hazuda would hit his third home run of the year in the fifth to bring the score to 21-5. The Timberwolves would tack on four more runs in the sixth and seventh to comfortably take game one 24-5.

The Timberwolves would get on the board first in the top of the third, going ahead 1-0. Micah Geise would give the Storm their first lead of the series with a two-run home run, his sixth of the season. Northwood tie it up in the fourth. Lake Erie would retake the lead 3-2 in the fifth with an RBI double from Geise. The Timberwolves would answer in the sixth with two runs to go back ahead 4-3. The Storm would respond in the bottom half, retaking the lead 5-4 on an RBI single from Travis Yankovich. Lake Erie would hold on for a 5-4 game two win.

The Timberwolves would get off to a hot start in game three going ahead 7-0 after three innings, taking advantage of Storm miscues. Northwood would add three more in the next two innings, growing the lead to 10-0. The Timberwolves would continue to add on from Storm miscues, bringing the score to 15-0. Lake Erie would struggle offensively, only mustering two hits in the 15-0 loss.

The Timberwolves carried momentum from game three and quickly went ahead 3-0 to start the game. The Storm would get on the board in the second with an RBI single from Hunter Aurand, cutting their deficit to 3-1. Northwood would add on another run in the third, bringing the score to 4-1. Lake Erie responded in the bottom half with one run on an RBI single from Micah Geise. The Storm would bring the score to 4-3 in the fifth with an RBI groundout from Teagan Williams. The Timberwolves would tack on a run in the sixth, growing their lead to 5-3. Northwood would add more insurance in the ninth, doubling their lead to 10-3. The Timberwolves would take game four 10-3 and secure a series victory.

Series History
 
Lake Erie has now dropped four straight series against Northwood and are now 14-19 all-time against Hillsdale. The last series win against Northwood was during the 2016 season as members of the GLIAC.  
 
Up Next
 
Lake Erie's season concludes with two road series with the first coming against Findlay beginning on Saturday, April 25th. 
 
Findlay is currently 25-15 overall and 16-6 in the G-MAC on the season. Recently, the Oilers split their home series against Ashland and split the first two games in an away series at Hillsdale. In the 2026 G-MAC preseason poll, Findlay was voted to finish 4th in the north division.
 
Findlay currently is 4th in the G-MAC in batting average (.291), 3rd in ERA (5.86), and 7th in fielding percentage (.962 with 51 errors).
