Four Place at Findlay Open

FINDLAY, Ohio- The Lake Erie College wrestling team competed at the University of Findlay Open on Saturday (Nov. 18) at the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex.

Four wrestlers placed for the 18th-ranked Storm, including Blake Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield), who finished third in the 125-pound weight class.

Glogouski got a bye into the second round of the 125-pound weight class. Glogouski opened his day with a 9-0 major decision over D.J. Smith from the University of Indianapolis. In the quarterfinal, he punched his ticket to the semifinals with a first period fall over Ashland's Bryce Davis. Glogouski fell in the semifinal to Hunter Lucas of Ohio State by a 5-2 decision. Wrestling for third place, Glogouski defeated Sebastian Vidika from Ashland by a 7-0 decision.

141-pounder Sean O'Hearon (Albion, Mich. / -) went 5-0 on the day to earn a fifth place finish. O'Hearon defeated Miles Mazik from West Liberty with a 9-3 decision in the first round. He followed up his opening match with a 6-5 decision over Jared Donahue of Wheeling Jesuit. O'Hearon forfeited his quarterfinal match and fell into the consolation bracket. He rebounded with a 4-2 decision victory against Ryan Skonieczny of Findlay. In the consolation semifinal, O'Hearon advanced as he defeated West Liberty's Josh Ridgeway with an 8-3 decision. He placed fifth with an 8-4 decision over Ashland's Carson Speelman.

Jesse Palser (Mansfield, Ohio / Mansfield) battled back from an opening round loss to place fifth for Lake Erie at 197 pounds after going 5-1. Palser dropped his opening match to Brian Wagner of Indianapolis with an 11-3 major decision. He had a bye in the consolation bracket's first round. In his first consolation match, he defeated another Greyhound as he had a 7-3 decision against Jordan Collins. Palser had a 5-2 decision over Chase Logan (Wheeling Jesuit) before defeating Notre Dame College's Tanyi Besong with a first period fall. Palser earned his fifth place finish with decision wins over Mason Kroening from Ohio and Kian Thompson from Tiffin.

John Penfold (Metamora, Mich. / Goodrich) placed eighth in the 197-pound weight class with a 4-2 record on Saturday. Penfold began the tournament with a tie-breaker-2 victory over Gunner Loughman from Gannon in the first round. He fell to Tiffin's Kian Thompson in the second round with a 9-4 decision. In his first consolation match, Penfold won against John Lessner from Wheeling Jesuit by a 5-0 decision. He continued his day with a 5-4 decision victory over Logan Hall from Notre Dame College and followed it up with a first period fall versus Logan Kemp from West Liberty. He fell in a 3-2 decision to Thompson in a rematch from the second round.

John Siemasz (Livonia, Mich. / -) went 3-2 at 149 pounds. Malachi Strickland (Massillon, Ohio / Massillon Perry), Brendon Winning (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) and Brandon Houle (Sparta, Mich. / Rockford / Hope) all won two matches on the day.

The Storm will host the Storm Open in two weeks on December 3rd.
