GRAND RAPIDS- Mich – The Lake Erie College women's and men's swimming teams were in action today (February 14th) as they wrapped up the final day of competition of the GLIAC Championships. The women finished tenth with 157 points and the men finished seventh with 228.5 points.
Meri Cizmar (Zagreb, Croatia / X. Gimnazija Ivan Supek) took first place in the prelims of the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.29. Cizmar finished with a time of 2.00.62 which earned her first place honors and the GLIAC Championship. Cizmar is the first women in school history to win a GLIAC Championship, and it is the third overall title in school history. Cizmar also earned first team All-GLIAC honors in the 200 backstroke.
Ivan Cizmar (Zagreb, Croatia / X. Gimnazija Ivan Supek) took second place in the prelims of the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.11. Cizmar finished with a time of 1:49.21 which earned him second place honors. Cizmar was also named to second team All-GLIAC in the 400 individual medley.
Yan Milinkovskyi (Zaporozhye, Ukraine / Academical Laceum of Zaporizhia) and Ilia Platonov (Russia) both advanced to the consolation finals of the 100 freestyle with times of 46.69, and 47.25 respectively. In the consolation final Platonov took fifth and 13th place overall and Milinkovskyi took sixth and 14th place overall with times of 47.33 and 47.49 respectively.
Nicholas Garcia (Saginaw, Mich. / Saginaw) qualified for the consolation finals in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.35. Garcia finshed eight in the consolation final and 16th place overall with a time of 2:19.19.
The Storm will be back in action when they compete in the NCAA Division II Championships next month.
