GRAND RAPIDS, Mich - The Lake Erie College men and women swimming team were in action today (February 12th) as they competed in the second day of the GLIAC Championship meet. The men are in seventh place with 106 points and the women are in 10th place with 43 points, with 20 events completed.
The men were led by Ivan Cizmar (Zagreb, Croatia / X. Gimnazija Ivan Supek) who took third in the preliminary round of 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:03.97. Cizmar placed second in the finals with a time of 3:59.44.
Yan Milinkovskyi (Zaporozhye, Ukraine / Academical Laceum of Zaporizhia) placed sixth in the prelims and advanced to the finals of the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 49.68. Milinkovskyi recorded a time of 49.59 which earned him sixth place honors. Illia Platonov (Russia) also advanced through the prelims of the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.30. Platonov placed fifth in the finals with a time of 1:41.74.
The men's relay team of Milinkovskyi, Platonov, Kaleb Brown (Indiana), and Nicholas Garcia (Saginaw, Mich. / Saginaw) placed sixth in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:26.27
The women were led by Meri Cizmar (Zagreb, Croatia / X. Gimnazija Ivan Supek) who set a school record with her time of 58.40 in the 100 yard butterfly, which qualified her for the finals. Cizmar set a time of 59.04 in the finals and earned 15th place honors.
The women's relay team of Brittany Funk (Turlock, Calif. / John H. Pittman), Vitoria Dos Santos (Sorocaba, Brazil / Colegio Ideal Sorcaba),Joelyith Humpe (Rayland, Ohio / Wheeling Central Catholic), and Cizmar placed ninth with a time of 1:41.33.
The Storm will be back in action tomorrow (February 13th) as they continue to compete in the GLIAC Championship meet.
