GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Lake Erie College swimming team was in action today (February 11th) as they competed in the GLIAC Championship swim meet. Through nine events the women's team is in 10th place with 23 points, and the men are in seventh place with 36 points.
Sophomore Meri Cizmar (Zagreb, Croatia / X. Gimnazija Ivan Supek) led the way for the Storm women as she set a school record, in a time of 2:11.10, in the preliminary round of the 200 yard individual medley. Cizmar advanced to the consolation finals, she placed fourth in the consolation final and 12th overall in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:08.61, which broke the record she set earlier in the day.
The 200 yard medley women's relay team of Cizmar, Brittany Funk (Turlock, Calif. / John H. Pittman), Vitoria Issaho Dos Santos (Sorocaba, Brazil / Colegio Ideal Sorcaba), and Joelyith Humpe (Rayland, Ohio / Wheeling Central Catholic) took ninth place with a time of 1:52.88
The men were led by Ivan Cizmar (Zagreb, Croatia / X. Gimnazija Ivan Supek) and Ilia Platonov (Russia) who both qualified for the consolation final in the 200 individual medley, and finished with times of 1:54.94, and 1:55.16 respectively. Cizmar finished fourth in the consolation final and 12th overall with a time of 1:53.55. Platonov took 14th overall and sixth in the consolation with a time of 1:54.37.
The men's 200 yard medley relay team of Cizmar, Platonov, Yan Milinkovskyi (Zaporozhye, Ukraine / Academical Laceum of Zaporizhia), and Kaleb Brown (Indiana) took took sixth in a time of 1:35. 40.
The Storm will be back in action tomorrow as they will continue to compete in the GLIAC Championship meet.
