Storm Falls to Grand Valley St.

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated today by Grand Valley St., 70-54.  With the loss the Storm falls to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference, and with the win the Lakers improve to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. 

Grand Valley went on a 10-0 run early in the first quarter, and took a 14-4, the run was ended by a Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) jumper.  The Lakers rode their momentum, and took a 24-8 advantage into the second quarter.   

Early in the second quarter the Storm went on a 12-2 run that cut the Lakers lead to 30-25.  The run was highlighted by Narducci and Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) who each hit a three pointer.  The Storm run lasted five minutes and ended with a Grand Valley three pointer.  Lake Erie entered the intermission trailing 37-30.  At the half the Storm was led by Narducci with 10 points, as she was 2-3 from behind the arc.    

Both teams traded baskets to open the third quarter and the Storm entered the media timeout trailing, 46-37.  Both teams continued to battle but the Storm was unable to chip away at the lead, and entered the fourth quarter trailing, 51-41. 

After the Lakers made the first shot of the fourth quarter the Storm went on a 6-0 run that cut the Grand Valley lead to six.  The run was highlighted by a Shelby Carpenter (New Lebanon, Ohio / Miami Valley) jumper that was assisted by Gabor.  The Storm was unable to complete the comeback and fell, 70-54.    

Gabor led the way for the Storm with 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) added 13 points for the Storm on 4-8 shooting from the field.  Narducci pitched in with 12 points and a team high three assists.  Daija Jones (Cleveland, Ohio / St. Joseph Academy) led the way for the Storm with seven rebounds.    

Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (December 12th) when they host Hillsdale at 1 P.M.
