DELAWARE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's swimming team finished day 1 of the Corbiere-Merion Invitational in second place, and the women finish in fourth.
The men were led by senior Yan Milinkovskyi (Zaporozhye, Ukraine / Academical Laceum of Zaporizhia) with a time of 49.17 in the 100 yard butterfly. Milinkovskyi also won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 46.23 seconds.
Also winning for the Storm was senior Ivan Cizmar (Zagreb, Croatia / X. Gimnazija Ivan Supek) with a win in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 51.49 seconds. Cizmar also won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:49.75.
Sophomore Ilia Platonov (Russia) also won the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:43.48.
Lake Erie also won both relay events, the 200 yard medley relay and the 400 yard freestyle. The winning teams consisted of Cizmar, Milinkoskyi, Platonov, and sophomore Kaleb Brown (Indiana), with winning times of 1:35.63, and 3:10.22 respectively.
The women were led by sophomore Meri Cizmar (Zagreb, Croatia / X. Gimnazija Ivan Supek) who all three of her events. She won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 59.50, and the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 57.76. She also won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.40.
Freshman Victoria Dos Santos (Sorocaba, Brazil / Colegio Ideal Sorcaba) took first place in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:13.84. Dos Santos also won the 200 yard free with a time of 1:53.19.
Also winning for the Storm was junior Brittany Funk (Turlock, Calif. / John H. Pittman) who won the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:18.30.
The women also won both relay events, the 200 yard medley relay and the 400 yard free. The winning teams consisted of Cizmar, Dos Santos, Funk and junior Joelyith Humpe (Rayland, Ohio / Wheeling Central Catholic), with winning times of 1:53.88 and 3:46.32 respectively.
