PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Sophomore guard Jen Caiola (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) scored a game-high 24 points as the Lake Erie College women's basketball team capped its most successful regular season ever with a 70-52 victory on the road at Urbana University Saturday (Feb. 20).

One game after having its school-record nine-game winning streak snapped, the Storm (18-9) held Urbana to just 29.8 percent shooting, including 23% in the second half, in earning a season sweep over the Blue Knights (15-10).

"Our perimeter players set the tone by pressuring the ball up top and defensively we really shut them down," said head coach Bob Booher. "And we did enough early on offense to get us ahead before we started to hit some shots in the second half."

Caiola, who scored 16 of her 24 points in the second, connected on four three-pointers in the game, giving her a school single-season record of 71 on the season. She was one of three Lake Erie players in double figures. Junior forward Alyssa Wagers (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) had 13 points to go along with eight rebounds and four steals while freshman guard Sarah Wojciechowski (Randolph, Ohio/Waterloo) chipped in with 10 points off the bench. 

The Storm led by seven at halftime (30-23) but outscored Urbana 15-4 in the first eight minutes of the second half to take control of the game. The lead grew to as many as 25 points on Caiola's final three of the game with 4:25 to go.

"We made a couple nice defensive plays early in the half and really got us going," said Booher. "We started to heat up offensively and it wasn't close after that."

Haley Ducey led Urbana with 10 points.

Senior guard Renese Ames (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford)  scored nine points and dished out acareer-high tying seven assists. However, her consecutive games scoring in double figures streak was snapped at 14. Sophomore center Stephanie Rogers (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) scored eight points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots. 

With the conclusion of the regular season, the Storm will now have to wait to see if it earns a postseason bid.
