Women's Basketball Drops First G-MAC Contest of Season

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team hosted the Walsh University Cavaliers for their first G-MAC contest of the season. The Storm played close with the Cavaliers in the first half and mounted a comeback in the fourth but they fell just short, 71-56.

Game Recap

The Storm played Walsh close in the first, scoring 13 points but only allowing 15. They took the lead midway through after a three pointer by Kylie Maxwell and held that lead for two minutes.

They began the second by tying the game at 15 on a layup by Megan Mares, and took a 18-17 lead on a free throw by Nina Shaffer and then extended it to 20-17 after two free throws by Riley Montagner.

Walsh took the lead for good in the quarter with 2:47 remaining and the halftime score settled at 35-27 in their favor.

The third quarter got away from the Storm and they were unable to keep up with the Cavaliers, falling at home to open up G-MAC competition.

Montagner and Emma Fouch led the team with 11 points each, with Fouch going 3-for-4 from deep and adding five rebounds to her stat line. Kylie Maxwell once again led on the defensive end with nine rebounds and three blocks in addition to two steals.
