Storm Women Fall on the Road at Hillsdale

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – A big run late in the first half by host Hillsdale College extended into the second half and keyed the Chargers' 85-69 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory over the Lake Erie College women's basketball team Saturday afternoon (Dec. 4) at Phillips Arena in Hillsdale.

The Chargers (6-1, 1-1 GLIAC) led just 31-30 with 4:34 remaining in the first half, but outscored Lake Erie (2-3, 1-1 GLIAC) 15-4 the rest of the way to take a 46-34 lead into halftime.  Coming out of the locker room in the second half, Hillsdale scored six of the first eight points to extend the lead to 17 just 1:30 into the period.  The Storm didn't get closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

The loss overshadowed another strong performance by junior center Stephanie Rogers (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor).  Rogers went seven-of-eight from the field for a team-high 18 points and led all players with seven rebounds.  Lake Erie held a 36-35 edge on the boards in the game.

Senior guard Brittany Zele (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) scored a season-high 14 points for the Storm, but was the only other Lake Erie player in double figures.  Sophomores Sarah Wojciechowski (Randolph, Ohio/Waterloo) and Taylor Rogers (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland/Baldwin-Wallace) each scored eight points off the bench, with Rogers adding a career-high seven assists.

The Storm shot just 41.4 percent from the field, going 24-of-58, and shot a season-low 62.5% (15-of-24) from the foul line.

Chelsea Harrison scored a game-high 22 points for the Chargers, who shot 58% (14-of-24) from the floor in the first half.  Emily Anderson added 17 for last season's GLIAC South Division runners-up.

The Storm has a week off until hosting Ashland University next Saturday, Dec. 11, in its conference home opener at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellness Center.
