STORM BEGINS FINAL WEEK OF 2009 AT TIFFIN: The Lake Erie College
women?s basketball team opens the final week of the 2009 calendar
year on Monday, Dec. 28, at Tiffin University in a preview of
future Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference clashes. The
Storm, which has lost three-of-four, last played on Wednesday, Dec.
23, and had a respectable showing in a 74-63 loss at Division I
Cleveland State. The Dragons, meanwhile, have been idle since Dec.
19. Tiffin has lost three in a row heading into this game.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE STORM: After falling behind 11-0 to open
the game against the Division I Vikings, Lake Erie rallied to close
within 52-50 midway through the second half before host Cleveland
State pulled away a bit down the stretch for a74-63 victory.
Sophomore Jen Caiola (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) scored a
game-high 20 points in the loss while senior Renese Ames (Bedford,
Ohio/Bedford) and junior Alyssa Wagers (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe
Falls) also reached double figures with 14 and 10 points,
respectively.
GETTING REAQUIANTED: Lake Erie and Tiffin have not met since the
1989-90 season, a game won by the Dragons 83-48 at Tiffin. However,
the two teams will be familiar foes beginning next season when the
Storm joins the GLIAC. The Dragons became members of the GLIAC in
2008.
BEST START IN SCHOOL HISTORY: With eight wins in the first 14
games, Lake Erie posted its best start to a season in program
history. Prior to this year, the earliest a Storm team reached
eight wins was 15 games during the 1982-83, 1991-92 and 2007-08
seasons.
30th SEASON OF STORM HOOPS: This is the 30th season in Lake Erie
women?s basketball history dating back to the 1978-79 season. To
date, the Storm has posted an overall record of 160-497 (.242).
However, 29 percent of the program?s all-time wins have come in the
last five seasons under head coach Bob Booher.
UP NEXT: Lake Erie closes 2009 on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 30,
with a home game against another future GLIAC foe, Grand Valley
State University. Tip-off at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic
and Wellness Center is set for 1 p.m.
