PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Three players scored in double figures as the Lake Erie College women's basketball team evened its record with an 81-46 win over Mansfield University (Pa.) at home on Sunday (Nov. 29).

The Storm (3-3) used a 20-6 run to close out the first half en route to its largest win since the 2007-08 season.

A three-pointer by Mallory Hafer cut Lake Erie's early lead to 21-16 with 8:11 left in the first half, but the Storm responded with scores on three straight possessions, including a three and lay-up by junior guard Brittany Zele (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva). 

The Mountaineers (2-2) got within eight at 28-20, but were outscored 13-2 the rest of the half for a 41-22 Lake Erie lead.

The Storm kept the surge going early in the second, scoring six straight points for a 47-22 lead. The closest the Mountaineers would get the rest of the way was 20 with 15:22 remaining in the game, but Lake Erie immediately followed that 16-4 spurt to extend its margin.

The 35-point victory was Lake Erie's largest since a 101-66 victory over Mount Aloysius at home on Feb. 16, 2008. The Storm shot 45.9 percent overall (34-of-74), hitting eight-of-24 from behind the arc.

Zele finished with a season-high 18 points, one shy of her career high, going eight-of-13 from the floor. 

Senior guard Renese Ames (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford) bounced back from a poor shooting night in Lake Erie's last game to score a game-high 19 points (seven-of-10 overall, three-of-three three-pointers) and grab a team-high seven rebounds off the bench.

Junior Alyssa Wagers (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe-Falls) was the third Storm in double figure, finishing with 11 points. 

Defensively, Lake Erie held the Mountaineers to just 23.6 percent shooting (13-of-55) and forced 22 turnovers. Meanwhile, the Storm committed a school single-game-record-tying 10.

Nicole Pender and Kayla Espigh each scored eight points to lead Mansfield. Mallory More finished with nine rebounds and seven points for the Mounties, who lost their second straight.

Lake Erie, which has now won three of its last four games, returns to the court on Tuesday, Dec. 1, when it hosts nationally-ranked Indiana University of Pennsylvania at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellness Center at 6 p.m.
