OWENSBORO, Ky. -- The Lake Erie wrestling team competed today in the 2026 G-MAC Championships. As a team, the Storm finished 4th and had five podium finishers, including two runner-ups.
Anthony Sagaris earned the first podium finish for the Storm, earning third place at 133. He began the day with a technical fall win over Christopher Ferraro (Thomas More) before losing his first match to last year's G-MAC champion, Cael Woods (Tiffin). He finished strong and won his next two matches, each by pin, to earn himself a spot on the podium.
At 141,
Carsen Richards earned back-to-back win to start. During the semifinals match, he fought hard against #7 Cole Thomas but fell just short, losing by 1-0 decision. He followed that performance up with a 13-3 major decision win in the consolation semifinals before taking third place against Brett Minnick (Tiffin), winning by 4-2 decision.

Colin Roberts represented the Storm at 149 for his first G-MAC championship appearance. He defeated Enzo Fourrmann (Ashland) by technical fall before dropping a 5-1 decision to Micah Cotrell (Findlay) in the semifinals. Just like Sagaris though he finished strong, winning by technical fall 26-10 in the consolation semifinals before defeating Buddy Leonard (Davenport) by 19-4 technical fall.
Josh Howey worked his way up from the preliminary round, earning three straight victories, two of which came via technical fall. He would then advance to the 157 championship match where he suffered a pin loss to #6 Casey Barnett (Tiffin).
The Storm's final podium finisher was
Vincent Scaramuzzino at 184. He began his day in the quarterfinals and took down Matt Malay (Ashland) by 13-9 decision. In his semifinals match, he made quick work of Chase Stein (Findlay), taking him down via pin in 2:34 to advance to the championship match. During the championship, he was defeated by David Davis (Tiffin) by 11-1 major decision.

Looking Ahead
Lake Erie will be back in action on Friday, February 6th at home for a senior night tri-match against Wheeling and Hiram. Their first dual against Wheeling is set to begin around 5:30 p.m.
