PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- During March, athletic trainers across America are being recognized for their commitment to helping people prevent injuries and stay healthy and active. As healthcare professionals, they are highly educated and dedicated to the job at hand. Athletic trainers are found in high schools and colleges, corporations, professional sports, the military, performing arts, clinics, hospitals, and physician offices.
Here at Lake Erie, we are lucky enough to have five of the best athletic trainers in the country. Behind every one of our student-athletes success is an AT who goes above and beyond every day. Their commitment and hard work day in and day out does not go unrecognized, and every day, we are thankful for them.
This week we are highlighting Sabrina McCraith, who is in her ninth year on the LEC sports medicine staff. Sabrina works primarily with the Storm women's soccer, men's basketball, and men's lacrosse programs. Here is what our staff and student-athletes have to say about Sabrina:
"Throughout my five years at Lake Erie College, I've had the privilege of working with Sabrina on a daily basis. Sabrina truly embodies what it means to be professional, kind, respectful, and caring. From day one, she made me feel supported, not just as an athlete but as a person. Her dedication to my well-being and her ability to listen with empathy speaks to her high character. She always approached every situation with professionalism, ensuring I had the best care and treatment plan in place so that I could perform at my highest level. Sabrina goes above and beyond time and time again, whether it was helping me through injuries, providing advice, or offering a word of encouragement when I needed it most. Her respect for every athlete she works with and her genuine care for our success is something that I will never forget. Sabrina is more than just an athletic trainer. She is an All Star and someone I was grateful to have in my corner throughout my experience!"
- Caleb Piks, Men's Basketball
"Sabrina is one of the most caring and understanding people I know. In moments of crisis, she always finds the right words to calm you down and guides you through injury, rehab, and eventually, your comeback. Sabrina always has our best interests at heart, not just as student-athletes, but as people. She is truly more than just a trainer. We love her for her dedication, empathy, and work ethic—whether it's answering the phone in the middle of the night or making time in an overcrowded treatment schedule for every single athlete in need. Knowing there's someone who cares about you and always has your back makes all the difference, especially in times of despair. Sabrina is someone you can always count on, and we shouldn't take that for granted."
- Leonie Witt, Women's Soccer
"The role Sabrina plays not only with our program, but with Lake Erie College cannot be understated. She brings expert knowledge and professionalism when we need it the most as well as being able to provide me and my staff with tremendous support while striving to get our athletes back on the field as quickly as possible. Her experience as a collegiate athlete also brings valuable insights that certainly makes my job easier at times. Sabrina is a consistent force of positivity that we are lucky to have with us everyday."
- Head Coach Carl Contrascier, Women's Soccer
