WICHITA, Kansas -- The Lake Erie wrestling team competed in the 2024 NCAA DII Nationals this weekend in Wichita, Kansas. Out of the four national qualifiers, Junior Jask Haskin came away with All-American honors.
Ryan Wehner represented the Storm at 133. He fell in his opening matchup to Sioux Falls' Beau Klingensmith. In the consolation round, he took down Tiffin's Maximus Shore by 9-8 decision before losing his next match by major decision.
At 141,
Corey Gamet took down Adams State's Angel Flores by 8-6 decision. He then fell in a tight 2-0 matchup to Lander's Isham Peace. During his first consolation round match, he squeaked out a 4-1 sudden victory over Maryville's Kody Ketchum before ending his day with a 11-6 loss to Augustana's Hunter Burnett.
Christian Small, the 2023 national runner-up at 141 kicked off his day with a tough 10-8 decision loss at 149. In the consolation round, he then fell to Augustana's Cael Larson, 6-1.
At 157,
Jack Haskin continued his impressive undefeated season with back-to-back victories. He then fell to Central Oklahoma's Gabe Johnson by 11-3 major decision. He advanced to the consolation semifinals where he defeated Northern State's Devin Bahr before losing the 3rd-place matchup to Glenville State's Guy Deleonardis, 8-1. Haskin becomes the 13th All-American in program history and concludes his season with 25 victories.
