Shannon Schaub Named Next Head Coach of Lake Erie Softball

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- Lake Erie College Athletics announced today that Shannon Schaub has been named the next head coach of the Storm softball program.

"We are thrilled to welcome Shannon Schaub as our new head softball coach at Lake Erie College," said Molly Hoffman, Executive Director of Athletics. "Shannon brings a wealth of Division II experience and a proven track record of success as a head coach. Her leadership and passion for the game will undoubtedly inspire our student-athletes to reach their full potential both on and off the field. We look forward to the exciting future ahead for our softball program under her guidance!"

Schaub takes over the Storm softball program after serving as the head coach at Hiram College in 2024.

In her lone season at Hiram, Schaub led the program to its third straight 25-win season, which extended a program record. Hiram led the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) in fielding percentage (.966) and pitching strikeouts (227), while ranking third in batting average (.319) and second in doubles (66). Under Schaub's leadership, the Terriers had two All-Region selections and four All-NCAC selections, three of whom earned First Team honors.

"I am excited to be announced as the new head softball coach at Lake Erie College" said Schaub "Under the leadership and vision of President Jennifer Schuller and Athletic Director Molly Hoffman, I feel Lake Erie Athletics have a bright future in store and I'm ready to be a part of that. I'm excited to return to DII and face familiar opponents that I faced as a player and coach at Ashland University and I have high hopes for the Lake Erie Storm to be competitive in the G-MAC in the near future."

Prior to Hiram, Schaub was the head coach at Wittenberg from 2019-2023. During her time, she coached nine different student-athletes to All-NCAC honors. The team notably went 22-12-1 in 2021 and posted its most conference wins in a season (7) under the leadership of Schaub. Schaub's 64 career wins with the Tigers were the fifth-most by a head coach in Wittenberg softball history.

Before Wittenberg, Schaub spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Ashland University. The Eagles made six NCAA Tournament appearances and never had a losing season with Schaub on their staff.

Prior to beginning her coaching career, Schaub had a very successful playing career as a pitcher and first baseman for Ashland from 2005-09. In 2009, she earned First Team All-Region and First Team All-GLIAC honors after she led her team in batting average (.357), slugging percentage (.629), home runs (11) and RBI (31). Those 11 home runs were tied for the fourth-most in a season in Ashland softball history.

Schaub and her husband, Cassidy, have three boys: Colton, Finn and Bo.
