Long Weekend Ends in Four Game Loss for Storm

PEMBROKE, North Carolina — The Lake Erie men's baseball team traveled to the University of North Carolina, Pembroke, at a neutral site to face the Shepherd University Rams for back to back double headers. The Storm was unable to secure a win on the weekend, falling 4-0 in games. This brings their season to 0-10 overall. 

Saturday, March 4th

Game 1

Sophomore Graham Solak was the Storm's solo run with a homer to right field in the fourth inning.  Sophomore Robert Helt was the leading pitcher for the Storm, throwing five strikeouts in four innings. 

Game 2

The second game of the day worked in the Rams favor, as they threw a no-hitter on the Storm. Graduate student Zach Saffell threw four strikeouts for Lake Erie. 

Sunday, March 5th

Game 1

Lake Erie started the third game of the weekend with a single line drive from junior Josue Cruz, sending sophomore Israel Espinosa home for an early run for the Storm. Cruz tallied an RBI for his solo at bat. Espinosa hit a single on a fly ball in the second inning, which sent junior Justin Major home for the second run of the day. This gave Espinosa an RBI for his three at bats. Tailing 2-14 in the sixth inning, Cruz was able to score again off a wild pitch. The Storm fell 15-3, but improved from the first games against the Rams. Freshman Cooper Moran started off pitching for the Storm, throwing one strikeout in the first 1.2 innings. Junior Darren Acosta took over, followed by several other Storm pitchers. Acosta and freshman Landen Vance both threw two strikeouts each. 

Game 2

Behind 2-0 in the fourth inning, freshman Hagan Hejduk singled through the left to send junior Jacob Mote home for the Storm's first and only run of the game. The Rams were able to take control in the fifth and sixth inning, outscoring the Storm 10-1 in the end. Freshman Dominic Peltrone threw six strikeouts for Lake Erie, before sophomore Jay Gural took over pitching for the last two innings. Gural threw one strikeout. 

Looking forward, the Storm faces the Chowan University Hawks on Monday, March 6th at 2:00 PM for a single game.
