Box Score 2 CANTON, Ohio — The Lake Erie softball team was on the road for another conference doubleheader against the Walsh Cavaliers. With the Storm dropping the first game, their strong offensive effort in the second game could not top the Cavaliers. The Storm fell 2-0, moving them to a 1-5 conference record and 6-16 overall record.
GAME 1
Senior Carly Rowland started off on the mound for the Storm, pitching four innings. Rowland threw four strikeouts for the day, tallying 44 for the season so far. Sophomore Emma Spahr stepped in to pitch the last two innings.
The Storm's solo run for the first game was from junior Jordyn Long's single to center field. Junior Ava Scott was able to score, giving the Storm one run in the second inning. Long recorded two hits for the game, along with her RBI to make it her second of the season. The Cavaliers took control the rest of the game, with a final score of 6-1.
GAME 2
The Storm was ready to bounce back from the first game, as they were able to make a comeback even take the lead in the third inning. Senior Dani Soria reached first on an error from the Walsh pitcher, which was enough to send Spahr home for the Storm's first run of the second game. Sophomore Rachel Varga then singled to left field, allowing Soria to score. Sophomore CJ Garcia kept it going with another single to left field, giving freshman Lillian Campbell the path home. Tied 3-3 in the third, the Storm was not done. Sophomore Jasmine Gonzales hit a crucial double to send both Garcia and Varga home, cashing in two RBIs. To continue, sophomore Arianna Tammaro singled to right field, allowing Gonzales to score to give the Storm a 7-3 lead.
The Cavaliers scored a run in the third and two in the fourth, to bring it to a close 7-6. Varga grounded out in the sixth inning which was enough to send Tammaro home for a run. Up 8-6 in the bottom of the sixth, Walsh would tie it up with a sacrifice fly. A forced eighth inning would end with another sacrifice fly from Walsh, with a final score of 9-8.
The Storm put up an impressive 13 hits in the second game. Senior Grace Hammer pitched every inning, throwing nine strikeouts. Hammer now has 93 strikeouts for the season. Tammaro led the Storm's offense with three hits. Soria, Varga, and Garcia all recorded two hits each.
The Storm return to their home field on Sunday, April 2nd to host the Ohio Dominican Panthers for another conference doubleheader, set at 1:00 & 3:00 PM.
