ERIE, Penn. - The Lake Erie College Storm Baseball team traveled to face the Mercyhurst University Lakers this week for a one-game series. The Storm were defeated in the contest, 8-5 and their record now falls to 3-20 on the season.

For the first four innings of the matchup, both the Lakers and Storm struggled to get any rhythm going offensively. Mercyhurst would manage to come up with just three hits against Anthony Berrios Jr., Zach Saffell and Jon Poppy while Lake Erie would only have two baserunners.

In the fifth, Israel Espinosa would start off the inning with a walk. During the next at-bat he would steal second and then steal third during the next at-bat. After a walk by Cody Greenfield, Nick Taylor would hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Espinosa from third.

The Lakers would take the lead in the bottom of the inning and add three more in the bottom of the sixth, giving them a 5-1 lead with the Storm coming up to bat in the seventh.

Espinosa would start off the inning with a single and manage to capitalize on Laker mistakes to put himself at third with Greenfield to bat. Greenfield would drive in Espinosa with an RBI single and advance Treyvon Fletcher to second. 

After two more outs, Mason Eicher would come up to the plate and hit a no-doubter over the left-field fence, tying up the ballgame at five.

Mercyhurst would continue to roll in the bottom of the eighth and put up three more runs, leaving the final score at 8-5.

The Storm will be back in action April 8-9 for a four-game series against #7 Trevecca Nazarene on the road as they continue conference play and look to bounce back by surprising a very good Trojans team.
