Storm Earn First Conference Win in Split with Malone

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PAINESVILLE, Ohio - With the Lake Erie softball season in full swing, the Storm played host to the Malone Pioneers for a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Kiwanis Recreation Park's Diamond 9. In just their second set of true home games this year, the Storm were able to earn a split with the Pioneers. The Storm took game 1 by a score of 1-0, and Malone would pull away 4-2 win in game 2. The games went as follows:

Lake Erie 1, Malone 0

The first contest of the afternoon was a defensive struggle as both teams had very few scoring opportunities. The first two innings were quiet, but the Storm were able to break the deadlock. Adrianna Sluga singled to start things off for the Storm, and Chloe Allen added another base hit of her own shortly thereafter. Arianna Tammaro would then add one more single for the Storm which brought Sluga around from third for the first and only run of the game. From there, Lake Erie relied on a strong performance in the circle from Carly Rowland as she pitched a complete game shutout and logged 4 strikeouts in the game.

Malone 4, Lake Erie 2

The second contest had a lot more to offer in the way of offensive play. Malone took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but the Storm answered right back with a CJ Garcia triple which brought in Tymarie Hutchinson and Chloe Allen in to give the Storm a slim 2-1 advantage. Unfortunately, Malone would then add runs in the 4th and 5th innings to give themselves the 4-2 win and split the series with the Storm. Despite the loss, Grace Hammer pitched well in the game as she logged 5 strikeouts in the contest.

Lake Erie will look to add some more conference wins to their resume this weekend as they head down to Columbus, Ohio on Sunday, April 3 to face off with the Ohio Dominican Panthers for another doubleheader. The first of the 2 contests will begin at Noon.
