Up and Down Day for the Storm as Lake Erie splits with Tiffin

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MENTOR, Ohio - After a dramatic finish to the Storm's sweep over Walsh yesterday, the Lake Erie College softball team got right back at it with a Saturday doubleheader against the Tiffin Dragons. While technically a home contest, the games were played at Mentor High School due to wet field conditions at the Storm's traditional home field at Kiwanis Recreation Park. It was an up and down day for the Storm as they would fall to the Dragons in Game 1, but would earn a dominant victory in Game 2. The games played as follows:

Tiffin 7, Lake Erie 0

In game 1, the Storm had difficulty finding their groove offensively as they would record just 1 hit on the day which was a Adrianna Sluga single in the 5th. Tiffin would jump out to an early lead, and ride that advantage the whole way to the 7-0 win. In the pitcher's circle, Grace Hammer got the start for the Storm, and Emma Spahr would have an impressive day after she came in as a reliever in the 2nd inning.

Lake Erie 9, Tiffin 1

In game 2, the Lake Erie bats finally came alive as they piled on 7 runs in the first inning. Tymarie Hutchinson got the scoring started for the Storm with an RBI single. Kiya Smith continued the streak with a double to bring in another run. Sluga and Bridget Mullholand would add 2 more RBI singles to set the stage to the highlight play of the inning. Payton Brownlee knocked a RBI triple to bring in Dani Soria and Mullholand. Chloe Allen would then finish off the scoring in the inning with a single to bring in Brownlee. Tiffin would regain a single run in the 4th, but Tymarie Hutchinson would add 2 more RBIs in the 5th off of a single, and the game would conclude 9-1. In the pitcher's circle, Mulholland got the Storm started off with an impressive innings of work, and Carly Rowland would come in and seal the Storm victory with 3 strikeouts in the final 2 innings of the contest.

Lake Erie softball will have a couple days to rest, but they will get right back at it as they head down to Cedarville on April 19th for a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader with the Yellow Jackets. The first contest will start at 2 pm.
