Box Score 2 PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Lake Erie College softball program took the field in their first true home stand at Diamond 9 as the Mercyhurst Lakers came to visit for a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader. Despite some strong play across the board, the Storm came up short in both contests. The game results were as follows:
Mercyhurst 2, Lake Erie 0
In the first contest, the Storm and Lakers were locked in a pitcher's duel for much of the game. Carly Rowland would log an impressive 7 strikeouts in the game, and Ava Scott would go 3-3 from the plate. However, Mercyhurst would add runs in the 3rd and 7th innings to give the Lakers the first game of the day.
Mercyhurst 9, Lake Erie 1
In the second game, the Storm would struggle to keep up with the Laker output from the plate. The lone Storm run would come from an Arianna Tammaro sacrifice fly that brought Bridget Mullholland around from third in the 6th inning. Grace Hammer would record 5 strikeouts as the starter before Emma Spahr came in as the relief pitcher in the 7th inning.
This week's action is far from over for the Lake Erie softball team as they will head up to Michigan to take on the Hillsdale Chargers for the Storm's first conference matchup of the season on Friday, March 25th. The first of the two contests will begin at 3pm.
